Our Mission

BDN is a non-profit organization.  We believe that children are competent, capable, full of wonder and ideas, and rich in potential.  We are committed to creating a high-quality early learning and care environment with our educators, children, and families.  We believe that each moment we share with the children offers an opportunity to build positive relationships.  Educators encourage children to pursue their passions and interests through our learning environments.  We invite them to explore, collaborate, reflect and communicate using a variety of resources and materials.

our Menu

BDN is catered by Wholesome Kids Catering. Our menu provides nutritious, well-balanced lunches and snacks throughout a four-week cycle.  Our kitchen staff are trained and certified in Food Safety. The menu includes a variety of fresh, homemade favourites including multicultural dishes.  The menu provides children with the nutrition they need to support their growing minds and bodies.  Our menu is consistent in meeting the standards and requirements in the Early Years and Child Care Act and follows the menu planning requirements identified in the operating criteria used by the Regional Municipality of Durham. It is approved by a certified nutritionist and registered dietician.

Board of directors

Brooklin Day Nursery is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board comprises a minimum of five members, with four Executive positions; President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. All positions on the Board of Directors are volunteer.

The Board works as a team, drawing on its members' skills and abilities to help keep BDN on a path to success. The Board of Directors is responsible for the sustainability of BDN and the advancement of its mission and goals. This involves setting long-term goals, developing policies and procedures, financial planning/budgeting, and ensuring the legal and regulatory obligations of the organization are met. The Board works closely with BDN's Director, who is responsible for day-to-day operations such as staffing, programs, parent and child relations, enrolment, and assisting with developing and maintaining the budget.

BDN holds an Annual General Meeting every September. All parents are encouraged to join us. It is an excellent opportunity for parents to hear about our financial positions, the objectives that we have achieved during the term, and the plans for the future of BDN. This is also the time of year when we ask parents to join as members of the Board.

As a non-profit organization, it is essential to have enough members to keep BDN open. As a member, you would be committed to a minimum of one year of service. Members are elected at the AGM. Meetings are held once a month, and members are periodically called upon to complete tasks or assignments during the months. The Director attends the meetings and presents an overview report.

Board members are covered under the appropriate insurance. All Board members must sign and adhere to a Statement of Confidentiality and obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check. Participation on the Board is a gratifying experience. It is an opportunity for personal growth and development and a chance to contribute to BDN.
